The global need for clean air
The global need for clean air
Poor air quality is one of the leading causes of premature deaths worldwide, and industrial activity is a major source of emissions. At the same time, industry is driving solutions that improve air quality, reduce energy use, increase recycling and enhance production efficiency. Global urbanization and industrial growth, together with rising sustainability requirements, are further increasing the demand for clean air solutions.
Air pollution, especially fine particles like PM2.5, poses serious health risks, including cardiopulmonary diseases, high sick leave, and reduced life expectancy, while also harming biodiversity. Millions of people live and work in regions where air quality is below safe levels. Improved air quality also supports higher productivity, safer working environments and lower costs for industry.
Stricter laws and new directives
Governments and international organizations are tightening regulations to improve air quality. The WHO has lowered safe limits for PM2.5, nitric oxide and ozone. The EU’s updated Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD) aims to meet WHO standards by 2035, while the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires companies to report emissions and mitigation measures.
In the US, the EPA tightened limits for PM2.5 and ozone in 2024 and is investing in clean energy and reduced transport emissions. China’s Blue Sky Action Plan and stricter regulations have helped lower emissions in industry, transport and construction.
Industry leading the way
Industry is both a major source of emissions and a driver of solutions. Advanced filtration and ventilation systems, energy-efficient production and smart digital monitoring reduce environmental impact while improving worker safety and operational efficiency. Companies like Nederman provide these solutions, helping industries meet stricter regulations and achieve sustainability targets. IoT-enabled systems and real-time monitoring allow production to be fully optimized for clean air, energy savings and efficiency.
